Funding interests include human services organizations and K-12 schools that are providing direct job training, STEM-related projects, technical training, or “soft skills” development needed to obtain and hold a job. AEOA administers a variety of loan and grant programs for homeowners to make basic improvements to the safety, livability, energy efficiency and accessibility of their home. Also known as the Section 504 Home Repair program, this provides loans to very-low-income homeowners to repair, improve or modernize their homes or grants to elderly very-low-income homeowners to remove health and safety hazards. The Charless Foundation is open to proposals for program, project or initiative funding or general operating support for organizations serving older adults. The Foundation is not considering proposals for education-based programming, organizational capacity building or capital expenses for the organization (ex. purchase of vans) at this time. Capital expenses that allow older adults remain in their homes, such as home repairs, will be considered. It is a “cash-out” refinance if the homeowner uses their home equity to raise emergency or investment funds. In 2020, there were 53,379 refinancing loans with no cash out and 14,717 cash-out refinancing loans. The trustees particularly favor applications that demonstrate multiple funding partners and match or challenge grant opportunities.

Repair projects at up to 150 homes in North St. Louis County will move forward in 2021 after Beyond Housing received $3 million in grants from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines . When a user creates a grant proposal and files for submission, we pass the information on to funding administrators, grant writers, and government loan issuers. In 2020, Missouri-wide, the average household received $728 in LIHEAP energy assistance. In their Model Plan, the Missouri Department of Social Services reports that 42% of LIHEAP is used for heating assistance, 28% for crisis assistance, and 10% for weatherization assistance. There are insufficient maintenance and renovation dollars available to public housing agencies to maintain all the properties in their portfolio to a high standard.

Contracted Services

Pettus Foundation will accept applications on an invitation-only basis twice a year. If deemed a potential fit for funding, the St. Louis Community Foundation will request a letter of intent which, upon review may lead to a Trustee site visit. The final step in the application process is to submit a customized version of the Missouri Common Grant Application 2.0. Understanding how significant a robust early education platform is for putting children on an excellent educational and social trajectory, the Trustees are interested in programs that impact many preschools through teacher training and innovative curriculum design.
